Photo-verification is a way to confirm your identity online - without leaving home. All you need is a camera phone and proof of identity. The whole process takes a few minutes.
What is photo-verification?
Photo-verification involves taking a photo of an ID card (both sides) and performing a short task of showing your face to the camera. Depending on the type of verification, this can be:
- showing a face in the marked area
- moving your head left and right
- blinking
The system checks that the details on the proof match and that you are the person in the photo.
What does the process look like?
- You apply for a service or product that requires proof of identity.
- You are redirected to the verification page (Autopay).
- You choose how to initiate verification (you scan the QR code on the screen or click on the link from the SMS).
- You take a photo of the front and back of the ID card.
- You show your face to the camera and perform a short task (e.g. move your head).
- Done! You will see a message that you can put the phone down. Go back to the further process, e.g. on your computer.
What data is checked?
Depending on the company commissioning the verification, the following data may be confirmed:
- name
- PESEL
- proof number
- date of birth
- citizenship
- other data from the proof (e.g. address, if visible)
When can photo-verification fail?
Photo-verification may fail if:
- you do not have a valid identity document (e.g. identity card or passport)
- you are using a device without a camera (e.g. a desktop computer) - it is then impossible to take photos and record faces
- photographs are blurred or taken in low light - the system will not be able to read the data and recognise faces
- do photo-verification on a laptop - cameras on laptops tend to be of insufficient quality, which can prevent effective confirmation of identity
💡 Ważne: It is always best to do photo verification on a smartphone with a good camera and in a well-lit area.
