Route

The A4 motorway consists of two types of toll sections with different billing systems. Below you will find all the information on how to use automatic payments on each section.

The concession section of the A4 Kraków-Katowice motorway is included in the system of videotolling, which means that automatic toll collection takes place after the vehicle's registration number is read by cameras at the gates. Automatic tolls are collected at the junctions in Mysłowice and Balice (separately at each gate, so if you drive through the entire section, the toll will be collected twice).

You can check the current price list for this section at the official website of Autostrada Małopolska.

The section of the A4 motorway managed by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways from Wroclaw to Sośnica is covered by the system e-TOLL, meaning that you must purchase a motorway e-ticket or use the convenient Autopay automatic payments before travelling. The barriers at the former gates have been permanently raised since December 2021.

You can check the current price list for this section at official government website. Update: From 1 July 2023, journeys, for light vehicles, on motorways managed by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways are free.

Using Autopay on the A4 Katowice-Krakow

If you do not yet have an account with Autopay or are looking for other information, please read the articles available here (terms of use) i here (accounts).

When you have an account with Autopay:

  • Click 'More' > 'Vehicles' > Name of your vehicle,
  • Click 'Change' visible above the list of motorways,
  • Move the slider next to the name of the A4 Katowice-Cracow,
  • when travelling through the selected junction, select the gate marked with the symbol black camera on a yellow background (remember to slow down) - the camera system will read your registration, the barrier will raise and the toll will be automatically collected.

Important: You do not need to turn on the application (or have your phone with you) when driving through the toll gates. If you have previously activated the Autopay service for the Katowice-Krakow A4 Motorway - the toll will be collected automatically as the camera system reads your registration number.

Before you travel, check that your plates are clean, well attached and undamaged - this determines whether they will be read correctly. In bad weather conditions (snow or rain), it may be difficult to read the plates.

💡 No changes can be made to the account during the run, including deleting the vehicle and changing the form of payment.

Borrowing a car

If you lend someone a car that you have added to your Autopay account, and that person is planning to travel on the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway - you will have to pay for the car. remember to deactivate the Autopay service for this section before its journey. To do this, uncheck the slider next to the name of the A4 Katowice-Cracow.

If you fail to do so, the toll for the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway will be charged to your card.

Problem with the barrier

The barrier on the A4 Katowice-Krakow may not lift if for some reason the camera does not read your registration, so remember to wipe it down before each journey.

When the barrier does not raise - press the SOS button and wait for the toll collector who will enter the information about your exit from the motorway into the system. The toll will be collected automatically (via Autopay).

💡In situations where the barriers are raised as a result of a Ministry decree, no toll is charged.
